Some pictures really are worth a thousand words. As a photographer, I try to capture as many words in a photo as possible. This picture, however, would be quite the challenge to summarize with such a small number of descriptors...maybe you can do it?

Real Food

What a concept! I'm a huge fan of real food. Why? because it tastes so much better than that slop they serve...wherever. I get a lot more joy (and often flavor) out of my food when I know where the ingredients came from and when I (or my friends) cooked it in their own kitchen.

Here is a shot of some good friends, David and his son, at the Food Day festival we had at the CoHo on UC Davis campus awhile back. They fully support the idea above.

As of Late...

I've been spending most of my time with these lovely people. They are family and I love them all.

New Garden!

So, I'm at my parents place at the moment (a strain of circumstances brought me here) and I've been helping around the new house in Santa Rosa to try and give me parents a little bit of a break. Anyways, one thing I got to do today was work on starting my moms new garden! I really hope she takes good care of it because I just put in a few hours today. Planted two types of basil, two types of carrots, some romaine, chard and artichoke.

Also, this picture is of what I thought was an artichoke plant, but it turns out that it is just a close, inedible cousin. Go figure, ha.

Life and Death

Joy and sorrow. The delicate balance of it all. It is all so necessary; desired and despised at the same time. Its observed in nature all the time, but when it hits us in our lives, it hits hard. Rest in peace, Grandpa, you were one of the strongest willed men that I knew. I'll miss you.

Treasure To Be Found

It's always so tempting to go to the farmer's market with my parents because there is always so much tasty tasty stuff there. But alas, I must be heading back to Davis today.

*sigh* I was really looking forward to a Belgian waffle too.

The Mountaineering Santa

Probably my second favorite ornament out of all of the ones on my tree. He kind of reminds me of my brother and all, climbing mountains and stuff. Maybe I'll do some of that this summer.

Well It's Officially Christmas

At least in my house, it has been Christmas now for at least a week, if not more, and shall continue to be Christmas until probably New Years Eve or so. The family is all together, Mom and sis are making cookies, the tree is all decorated and it smells like pine needle in my house. What more could one ask for.

Shavo

Now that I'm home, I get to sleep with a space heater, aka my dog Shavo. I have no clue how such a small creature generates so much heat.

My Usual Distraction

When at home, a very integral part of my study habits involved me taking regular mental health breaks in order to roll on my floor and play with my dog. Sadly, the dog is not with me in Davis. I do, however, seem to be rolling on the floor more often than I do at home. Coincidence? I think not. Here's a shot of my sister playing with my dog over thanksgiving break.

A Bit of History

Relics gathered from traveling the world hang above my head while I sleep in my room in my San Rafael house. It's kind of comforting. I hope, one day, I can say that I traveled as much as my uncle had.

So I Went Home Last Weekend...

and a lot in my house changed. Things have been painted new colors, new furniture, and my moms office looks like it's straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog. I probably would not have felt at home at all if I hadn't been enthusiastically greeted by my dog and then hung out with my sis while we ate sol food.

Norcal State of Mind

Got to go home for about 24 hours yesterday, which was pretty nice. Bummer my parents weren't there but I did get to hang with my sister and dog. Went for a nice long hike saturday morning with the dog through some old fire roads near china camp. Can't wait for thanksgiving break...or winter break, really.
