Bio Lab

Did my first bio lab last night, it wasn't all that bad, kinda fun actually. We were presented with fouling communities and took quadrat samplings to estimate the biodiversity in each tank with a small group we were in. Got to make up the reference names for the species (or UTOs) which was pretty funny. All of our species names had to do with food since we were all hungry (the lab was from 6-9pm).

A Day to Smile

I have way too much homework to do today, as well as a bio lab that supposedly goes until 6. And yet, I've started of my day perfectly and can't help but smile a bit.

Morning Stretch

I can't really function without it. I guess I should say that I have become so used to it that it feels kind of weird not to do it. Ever since Yoga this summer, I stretch almost every morning and at random points during the day. It does a body good.

Today is 200

So I've reached my 200th post, and I'm still going strong to complete my goal of a photo a day for one year. I don't really have a special picture like I did on the 100th post, but I can tell you that there are well over 200 barnacles in this photo.

Star Shot

I attempted a long exposure of the night sky a bit ago on the beach. High ISO made it come out super grainy though. But I did get lucky and managed to catch a shooting star which was pretty amazing.

Photographing the Guy Who Photographed Us

When writing about seattle, I think I neglected to mention that we were photographed by a professional photographer for a Seattle news paper. Pretty nifty. I snapped a few shots of him without him knowing it though. The second one is while he was taking our names down and telling us what he was doing. Not really artsy at all, but a better view of him.

Running

Last night I started running with one of my friends again, which will be good for both of us. The last time I ran, really, was when I did the Double Dipsea over summer break. Currently I'm running in Nike Free 7.0s and they're wonderful. Then, I read this recently and I think I'm going to experiment a little bit. Updates to come.

Insects

So while my friends were working on a deck yesterday, I had a little bit of free time and I started taking note of a wasp flying back and forth everyone once in awhile. After observing it for a little longer I concluded it was a mud wasp (since it was flying to and from a big mud puddle in our backyard) and noticed it was digging. It's pretty cool when you really observe things. I did this for about an hour, but I still don't know where its nest is. I was tempted to catch it and pin it as a gift for my friend Geoff (he collects bugs and plays frisbee) but so far have not been willing to take that risk.

On an Arachnid note, I've been getting a ridiculous amount of bug bites.

A piano. A free one that is, which means that it will most likely be a beater upright. It would look so awesome in our garage.

Lake Shasta

It is one hell of a beautiful place. One of the last stops on our road trip home and was probably one of the best along Highway 5. Went swimming, saw some awesome wildlife.

So, Seattle

You guys have to bear with me the next few weeks because I just came back from a week long roadtrip around the Northwest and a ton of the shots are from Seattle and such. Sorry if things get a little bit repetitive, but I think they're all worthy. So, let us get the one of the most expected ones out of the way. The space needle, in all its glory. We didn't go to the tip because the con artists at the ticket stand wanted us to pay $18 dollars for an elevator ride...we considered climbing.
